The Soil Association have released some helpful information on the latest information for England on the transition from the current Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) farming support to the new proposed Environmental Land Management (ELM) support scheme. 

Between 2021 and 2027 direct payments under the BPS scheme will be reduced from current levels to zero. The rate of reduction has been set for the 2021 year and will be reviewed for each year after that in turn.  

Between 2021 and 2027 there will be ELM Tests and Trials to help develop the scheme and this will be joined by an ELM National Pilot between 2022 and 2024.

The new ELM scheme will be launched in 2024.
